Luas: Rolling Stock

Luas tram at Heuston Station; Dublin - © Huib Zegers - 2008

For the first phase of the Luas project forty Citadis trams have been ordered from Alstom in France: 26 standard trams of thirty metres are working the Red Line and 14 extend trams of forty metres are working the Green Line.

The standard trams have sixty seats. There is standing room for 175 passengers.

Due to the great succes of the Luas the trams on the Red Line are being extended with a carriage so in the near future all Luas trams will be fourty metres long.

The height of the trams is 3.27 metres (the pantograph not included) and they have a maximum speed of 70 kilometres per hour.

The seats in the Luas trams have a wear proof fabric on which pictures of historic buildings in Dublin, such as the Custom House, the Four Courts, the Ha'penny Bridge and Christ Church Cathedral are printed.
